Executive chair Merino, front view

Executive chair

The Merino is the most classic of our desk chairs: black veg-leather, a tall channel-tufted backrest, and chrome arms. The chair you'd expect to find behind an executive desk.

What holds it up is what you don't see. The seat uses 56 kg/m³ molded, injected foam, the highest density in our seating line, which is why it won't sag over the years. The mechanism is a multi-lock knee-tilt: the pivot point sits forward, near the knees, so that when you recline your feet stay planted on the floor. The base is a 26-inch polished aluminum star, wider than standard, with 50 mm casters with a metal cover. The lumbar support is built into the shape of the backrest, and the arms are fixed, chrome, with a soft upholstered pad.

Frequently asked questions

About the Merino chair.

We answer the most common questions about the Merino chair: adjustments, dimensions, and warranty.

What is a knee-tilt mechanism, and how is it different from a synchro mechanism? +

In a synchro mechanism, the pivot point sits under the center of the seat, so when you recline your knees rise and your feet tend to lift off the floor. In a knee-tilt mechanism, that point moves toward the front of the seat: your body opens up but your feet stay planted. Multi-lock means it can be fixed in several positions, not just upright.

What does the foam's 56 kg/m³ mean? +

It's the seat's density: how much foam there is per cubic meter. Higher density means more resistance to deforming with use. 56 kg/m³ is the highest figure in our seating line, and the foam is molded and injected rather than cut from a block, which gives it a stable shape straight from the factory.

Why is the base 26 inches? +

It's a star base wider than the office standard. More diameter means more support surface and, therefore, more stability when reclining in a tall backrest. In polished aluminum, it also won't discolor over time the way painted nylon can.

Is there a guest-chair version of the Merino? +

Yes. The collection includes a guest-chair version. They share the upholstery and design line, so the executive desk and the chairs in front of it stay coordinated.

Does the chair comply with the Ley Silla? +

Yes. The Ley Silla is a Mexican labor-reform law that requires employers to provide workers with seating that has a backrest, and the Merino meets that requirement with a tall backrest, built-in lumbar support, and a lockable recline.
